WebJul 5, 2024 · Our barred rock chicks are doing this "sumo wrestler" chest bumping thing and it's hilarious to watch, but since we'd never seen it before it had us wondering what on earth it was about. Now we know, lol! I am really glad to hear this is normal too! I was getting a little worried that I had some kind of crazy sumo chickens as well! WebJul 10, 2012 · My chicks are just now 4 weeks old and I've been observing some "chest butting" activity. They'll face off and then bump chests and sometimes knock beaks. Then one will wander off while the other stands its ground. Is this a behavior exhibited by both genders? Or do I have roosters in the mix?

As soon as I would let them out of the box that I carried them in they would all run around doing that chest bumb thing. After they all did this then they would run and explore. WebApr 26, 2024 · We have three chicks in the brooder together. The other two seem fine. They’re running and eating and pecking etc. I don’t think we can see the inside of the vent from the pulsing. She’s just pumping her tail up and down, and her vent looks like a fish opening and closing it’s mouth. Repeatedly and constantly. (Sorry for the imagery). WebDec 15, 2024 · As day old chicks they do not really show too much in the way of behaviors. However as they grow you will notice them doing things like chest bumping, stare downs and posturing.
