WebSep 6, 2009 · 1500HD and 2500 are the same truck, just different badges for different years. The 1500HD/2500 is only available with the 6.0/4L80e with 3.73 or 4.10 for rear gears. They also come with a 9.5" SF rear axle while the 2500HD has a 10.5" FF. The frame is also smaller on the 1500HD/2500. The 2500HD has a higher tow rating, but also depends on gearing. The 2500HD also has a 2" bigger frame. The 1500HD is a classic 2500 from the pre- HD trucks. It is a ext. cab long box frame, and only comes in crew cab short box. This was a money saving thing from GM.

Ford and Dodge do, so chevy faked a half ton. 2500 is a normal 3/4. a 2500HD is a full ton, with single rear wheel. all 3500 are now dual rear wheel.

The HD sits about 2 inchs higher. This can be seen by the plastic filler strip between the grill and the bumper. The big difference is in the rear end. The HD has a full float rear end.
